Overview

 

The Panasonic Ag-HVX200 camera is a multi-format, multi-frame rate camera. HD can be recorded to P2 PCMCIA memory cards while the SD DV format can be recorded to P2 as well as to the mini DV tape format.

 

Because the camera can record to a total of 21 different formats, this paper is intended to show which formats and capture methods are supported with Avid Xpress Pro, Avid Media Composer Adrenaline, and Avid Media Composer Adrenaline HD.

 

This document will cover using the camera or the P2 card workflow as a means to get footage into the NLE systems or capture directly from material recorded to tape via the FireWire connection.

 

The table below describes the different formats. Formats in bold can record to both tape and the P2 card, non-bolded formats record to P2 only. There is no specific camera template for the HVX200 as a playback device over FireWire in Avid products as of v.2.2.1. Please use the DVX100 template. The user can also take the tapes to a supported playback device for capture over FireWire.

  2. 30p capture in a 29.97 will result in an interlace project
  3. User can edit 24p or 30p frame material within a 60i or 60p format keeping the original pulldown in the video
  4. User can use DVFilmmaker to render a new QT file that is 23.976 native using the Avid DNxHD codec. Original timecode will be lost. A future update will allow an MXF file to be created preserving source timecode.
  5. First supported in Avid Xpress Pro 5.2.3 and Avid Media Composer Adrenaline 2.2.3.
