Audio Sync Check

Using 24p offline audio reference

When working with 23.976 originated material in a 24p project, the audio rate gas been adjusted to be in sync with true 24fps and not 23.976. This is the only way of working on all systems through 11.5 (windows) and 11.7 (Mac). The most recent releases of these projects allow you to work at either 23.976fps or 24fps.

For all previous versions, generating an audio file for a sync check conform in Avid|DS was not possible with just a native export of the audio sequence as WAVE. Some processing must be done in order to reduce the play rate frame rate from 24fps to 23.976 (.999).

The following is the workflow to take a 24p project audio timeline, process and and export as 23.976 while maintaining 48kz.

  1. Highlight all audio tracks that need to be included as part of the sync check audio file.
  2. Select "Audio Mixdown" from the "Special" menu and select 2 unused tracks in the timeline.
  3. Once rendered, apply the "Pitch Shift" AudioSuite plug-in from the "Tools" menu.
  4. Open the "Pitch Shift" plug-in parameters and make sure to disable the "time correction" check box (see example below).
  5. Set the ratio by clicking in the box and typing in .999
  6. Click "render" and OK
  7. The mixdown track in the timeline will now be .1% longer in duration. This is expected since 23.976 playback is slower compared to 24fps and will be longer.
  8. Export the mixdown tracks as an OMF or WAVE file for importing into Avid|DS.
